Jan Smithers was a model who lived in Cincinnati and was best known for her work with Sky Magazine. She moved to New York City in 1973 and started working for Playboy Enterprises, which led to her becoming the Playmate of the Month for August 1974. She became the first woman to hold a position as president of a Fortune 500 company in 1973, when she was appointed head of Procter & Gamble.
