The social remnants of the 1960s were still vibrant in the early ’70s, although they had taken on a more materialistic expression. Vans became the transport of choice for many “counterculture” types. Their rides, made up of equal parts of rolling interior design display and airbrushed billboard, were personalized automotive expressions and as varied as their owners. With such a robust scene, vanners wanted to find a way to get together and before you knew it, the 1st Annual National Truck-In happened in Colorado. A first of its kind event, it signaled a movement that continues to this day around the world in one form or another – the Van-In.
