Hi, How Are You was recorded in September 1983 and is the sixth self-released music cassette album by singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston. It is arguably his most popular album. Johnston claimed he was in the midst of a nervous breakdown while recording it, and called this his “unfinished album.” This was Daniel’s album to be given a widely distributed release as a vinyl LP which came out in 1988 and after Kurt Cobain showed up at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards wearing this shirt, both Daniel and Hi, How Are You piqued the interest of millions of viewers, quickly reaching a new level of indie fame.
