Founded in 1917, Katz Drug Stores were more than a place to pick up prescriptions or cigarettes – they were where memories were made and friendships and romances blossomed. A trip to your neighborhood Katz store meant enjoying a burger and shake at the soda fountain with your sweetheart, or going with your dad on a Saturday morning to get a comic book for you and fishing tackle for him. Or visiting their legendary pet department to look at the alligators, parrots, and monkeys for sale, but ultimately feeling satisfied if you went home with a hamster or a goldfish. “Let’s go to Katz” was a common saying around Kansas City (and eventually many other cities and states). Katz grew to include 65 stores in five states, reaching more than $100 million in annual sales and employing more than 3,000 people. With the advent of self-service chain stores in the late 1960s and early 1970s, stores like Katz began disappearing from the retail scene. The drug store chain was sold in 1971 to Skaggs Drug Cos., which eventually merged with Osco Drug, which eventually merged with CVS Pharmacy. But Katz Drug Stores has remained in the hearts and memories of many Missouri residents even to this day. This design is based on some 1947 ad art and includes the famous “Katz pays the tax” tagline.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
