Description

The building at the southeast corner of O’Farrell and Polk in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District dates back to 1924, having originally been a Pontiac dealership. Enter the Mitchell Brothers who in 1969 reopened the dilapidated two-story building at 895 O’Farrell Street, which they converted into the Mitchell Brothers O’Farrell Theatre. Their venue was initially just an adult movie theater with a makeshift film studio upstairs, but after VCRs and home video forever changed the business in the mid-’70s, the brothers began adding live sex shows to stay relevant. The venue is said to be the first in the country to get the girls off the stage and onto the laps of the customers, thus creating the ‘lap dance’ as we know them today and a new adult entertainment experience that would be replicated by countless other clubs across the country for decades to come. After scoring a home run with the new live sex acts and stripping performance format, Hunter S. Thompson declared the theatre “the Carnegie Hall of public sex in America.” In 1972 the brothers produced their own adult film starring Marilyn Chambers. Titled Behind the Green Door, the movie would go on to ultimately gross over $50 million, making it one of the most successful adult movies of all time. In 1991 Jim Mitchell fatally shot his brother Artie, leaving the club to be managed by Jim’s daughter in its later years. In 2000, the Mitchell Brothers’ story was dramatized in the movie Rated X starring real-life brothers Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez as Artie and Jim, with Estevez directing.

Sizing

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
