Description

1920 saw Dick Cantlay and Joe Tanzola form a partnership in Los Angeles, in which they started a trucking company with the purchase of ten dump trucks, calling it Cantlay & Tanzola. They got a contract hauling for Consumers Rock and within seven years, they had built up a fleet of 100 trucks. Consumers Rock merged with Consolidated Rock in 1929 and Dick and Joe sold their company to Consolidated. Two years later, the guys were back in the business with two tank trucks on a petroleum contract for Shell, rapidly expanding to 30 tankers and running all of Southern California and well into Texas. In 1936, they purchased Western Truck Lines which allowed them to move into dry freight and then 20 years later, the purchase of Gillette Motor Freight had them changing names to Western Gillette Motor Freight and reaching all the way to Chicago and serving 1,400 cities in between. By the ’70s, the company had over 2,000 employees operating out of 52 company terminals in 15 States and a fleet of over 1,000 trucks. Cash flow problems started to rear their heads and in 1976 the company was sold to Roadway, marking the untimely end of Western Gillette Motor Freight.

Sizing

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
