Originally introduced as a digest-sized magazine featuring horror fiction accompanied by illustrations, the title lasted just two issues before being resurrected in 1974 as a full-sized black-and-white horror comics magazine. The revamped series featured gruesome tales of demons, vampires, witchcraft, and supernatural terror, along with several recurring horror characters. Taking advantage of the magazine format, which wasn't subject to the Comics Code Authority's restrictions, The Haunt of Horror embraced darker themes and more mature storytelling than conventional comic books. Despite its striking painted covers and contributions from some of the era's most talented writers and artists, the revived series lasted only five issues, ending in January 1975.
