In the 70s, Big Wheels were the Harleys of the neighborhood, but when Marx’s Green Machine hit the streets in 1977, kids were green with envy of those who had one of these mean machines. At just under $20, these pedal-operated hot rods featured adjustable bucket seats, “hug the road, tip-proof-design,” stick-shift controls, and Trans-Am style honeycomb mag wheels. Ads described the Green Machine as “mean,” and the “ultimate in low-slung style and performance” with a “low center of gravity” and anyone who ever rode one would agree that they were a freakin’ blast! You could slide out on a Big Wheel, but the Green Machine was practically built for it. Rule it up!
