Fohr was lucky to live after being badly hurt in a hit-and-run car accident when he was eighteen, but despite this – or maybe because of it – Fohr started racing soon afterwards. His best years – at least at a higher level – were in 1948 and 1949, when he won 4 IndyCar races, including twice at the Milwaukee dirt oval, but also at Springfield and Trenton.
