Remembering Randy's Restaurant

Yesterday, Seattle (ok fine, Tukwila) lost another piece of history. Randy’s Restaurant had actually closed a year ago, but the former Denny’s turned Randy’s was still standing and for passersby on Marginal Way along Boeing Field, it was nice to still see the old place standing, sign and all. Of course, all good things must come to an end and yesterday the wrecking ball came for Randy’s, so let’s share a little throwback to when they first announced they were closing after being open 24/7 since 1981. The blows to Seattle’s food scene just keep coming, and this time it’s a beloved retro diner just south of Boeing Field that is closing for good. Randy’s Restaurant, the 24-hour diner in Tukwila that features all things aeronautical, announced that the restaurant will be closing permanently on Nov. 15 after nearly 40 years in business.

“It is with a heavy heart that after almost 39 1/2 years of serving our customers, we will be closing our doors,” wrote the owners in a Facebook post announcing the closure. “We want to thank everyone that has supported us throughout the years, as you were not only our customers but also our friends.”

Featuring walls of aviation memorabilia and hanging model planes, the restaurant is a living relic of Seattle in its “Jet City” days. Many have stopped by on their way to Museum of Flight for an all-American brunch of steak and eggs, a stack of pancakes or a classic burger… read more >
