On Sept. 29, 1966, the Chevy Camaro went on sale to the public. Finally, the Ford Mustang, then just a toddler at 2 years old, had some competition for drivers who wanted more excitement than the family sedan could offer.
The stage for the Camaro’s rollout had been set June 28, 1966, when General Motors gathered all the top automotive journalists to a hotel in Detroit for a major announcement. The company had added a new car to its Chevrolet line.
“What’s a Camaro?”one of the scribes asked. “A small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs,” a GM official answered. read more >
