The band consisted of guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. The band’s long-form songs with heavy, guitar-driven sound led to them being cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal. They drew their unique style drew from a wide variety of genres including blues, psychedelia, and folk music. Although they were initially unpopular with critics, their fame grew exponentially, with their song “Stairway to Heaven”, now among the most influential works in rock music history.
