Ever wanted to go 200mph in a Corvair? Yeah, me neither, as I enjoy being alive a little too much, though THIS Corvair seems more than up to the task at hand.
This 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza was acquired by the seller around nine years ago and subsequently modified for use in Open Road Racing speed competitions. The car has won several Top Speed awards from various events over the years, and achieved an average speed of 180.58 mph with a high trap of 207.8 mph at the Silver State Classic Challenge in Nevada in September 2011. Power is from a 406ci Chevrolet V8 reportedly equipped with a Dart aluminum engine block, Brodix aluminum cylinder heads, an Eagle forged rotating assembly, Fuel Safe 24-gallon fuel cell, and dual MSD ignition systems. It is finished in red primer and features a custom aluminum nose and fiberglass hood, Lexan windows, integrated NACA ducts on both sides, and a roof that has been chopped by 2.5”. Additional equipment includes a Mendeola five-speed sequential transaxle, a limited-slip differential, Aldan four-wheel adjustable coilovers, C4 Corvette-spec front suspension, a full roll cage with door bars, Kirkey fixed-back bucket seat, and 18” CCW wheels.
