Our story begins Labor Day weekend at a posh Indianapolis restaurant during the running of the 1964 NHRA U.S. Nationals. Hot Rod Magazine’s Ray Brock and shifter magnate George Hurst were kicking around some ideas over dinner to promote the Hurst brand on the track. Hurst had been branching out from just shifters with such products as the new Line Loc and a recently introduced two-piece billet wheel.
