Westboro Speedway thrilled MetroWest from 1947 to 1985

Believe it or not, there used to be a racetrack in Westborough. Where? It’s not too hard to figure out. Just take a look at the name of the plaza that houses Burlington Coat Factory, Launch Trampoline and Chick Fil-A, at 290 Turnpike Road (Route 9). It’s RK Speedway, a homage to the Westboro Speedway, a 1/4-mile paved track that operated from 1947 to 1985.

The track was started by five World War II veterans from Framingham and Natick — Roland and Leo Turgeon, Norman MacDonald, Joseph Henebry and Richard Trum, according to Kristina Nilson Allen’s historical book, “On the beaten path: Westborough, Massachusetts.” Read more >
