Consolidated Freightways Supporting Santa

Bet you didn’t know that Santa outsourced some of his transportation work to Consolidated Freightways (CF) back in the day. We kid. This is actually a shot from Operation Reindeer in 1958 which involved delivering a herd of reindeer from Alaska Governor Mike Stepovich to President Dwight Eisenhower. The gesture was a symbolic gift for Eisenhower’s eventual support for Alaska statehood, which took effect on January 3, 1959. The reindeer would grace the annual Pageant of Peace parade and witness the National Christmas Tree’s lighting before taking up residence at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C.
