NYC’s Absolute Bagels closes after 34 years of business

After 34 years, Absolute Bagels has permanently closed. Longtime patrons of the small, no-frills bagel shop that opened in 1990 were shocked and devastated to see two “We are closed” signs posted on the storefront on Thursday morning. A third sign, dated Dec. 11, explained that the closure was by order of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Customers found out about the shop’s closure through various sources—many were stopping by for their weekly bagel pickup, some heard from family and friends, and others came across the news on social media.
