Long before internet chat rooms, erectile dysfunction drugs, and the modern era of safe-sex awareness, there was Plato’s Retreat, one of the most notorious public sex clubs in America. Opened in the basement of Manhattan’s Ansonia Hotel in 1977, the club attracted thousands of adventurous New Yorkers, tourists, and the occasional celebrity. Its sprawling facilities included hot and cold buffets, a clothing-optional disco, a massive 60-person Jacuzzi, a maze of semi-private rooms, and its infamous communal “orgy room,” filled wall-to-wall with mattresses and devoted unabashedly to the era’s anything-goes sexual hedonism. Plato’s Retreat survived into the 1980s, but the atmosphere surrounding New York nightlife changed dramatically with the AIDS crisis. In November 1985, city officials began closing establishments considered high-risk venues for HIV transmission. Plato’s Retreat was among them, shutting its doors for good on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve 1985 and bringing one of the most infamous chapters of the 1970s sexual revolution to an end.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
