Design Description
In 1953, Al Berger opened The Burger Bar in downtown San Jose, creating a favorite hangout where college students and locals could grab an affordable meal. The restaurant's success led to two additional Burger Bar locations, but Berger had an even bigger idea. In 1956, he introduced the first Burger Pit in Cupertino, centered around a charcoal-fired grill that gave its burgers and steaks a distinctive smoky flavor. The concept quickly caught on, and over the following decades Burger Pit expanded to more than 25 locations throughout the South Bay, becoming a local institution known for its charcoal-broiled Steerburgers and flat-iron steaks. During the mid-1980s, most of the Burger Pit restaurants were sold to a national fast-food chain, but Berger retained the flagship location on Blossom Hill Road. After retiring in 1986, he handed day-to-day operations over to his son, allowing the family tradition to continue. For more than 70 years, Burger Pit remained a beloved San Jose landmark, serving generations of loyal customers before rising real estate costs and increasing rents ultimately forced the iconic restaurant to close in 2024, bringing an end to one of Silicon Valley's longest-running family-owned burger chains.

Like all our designs, this one is treated with our signature ‘relic-ing’ process which includes our own secret recipe of hand-painted chipping, cracking, fading, and just the right touch of yellowing to ensure that it looks the part of a true vintage imprint.** We lay these works of art down on premium Bella+Canvas 3001 Unisex Jersey Short Sleeve Tees, one of the softest, best-wearing t-shirts available today, via state of the art direct to garment (DTG) printing which allows us to create a vintage effect that simply can’t be accomplished with other printing methods. Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
All sizes are provided in inches! Please note that variations in sizing of up to 1.5 inches are possible.
