Before World War II, Sandy Belond operated Sandy’s Muffler Shop, where his hand-built headers sold for just $15 a set and became a favorite among Southern California hot rodders. He closed the shop to join the Marines during the war, but after returning home in 1947, Belond was eager to get back into the performance business. He arranged to lease garage space at Karl Orr’s Speed Shop, and by 1948 was operating as Belond Headers, selling his products through Orr’s shop. Business took off, and by 1958 Belond had assembled a small crew and was supplying headers through more than 2,000 dealers nationwide. Belond eventually sold the company to A-P Industries, better known as Appliance Plating, which rebranded Belond Headers under the Appliance name around 1960. When the new owners discovered that running a performance-header business wasn’t quite as simple as buying one, they brought Sandy back to oversee the operation, a role he continued in until his death in 1988. Appliance headers retained much of Belond’s proven engineering while becoming famous for their distinctive bright white ceramic coating, an exceptionally durable finish that often outlasted the engines the headers were bolted to—no small accomplishment considering the brutal temperatures exhaust headers endure. And then there was the buzzard. Exactly how the bird became Appliance’s mascot is a little murky, but it appeared on countless company decals over the years, many of which ended up stuck to race cars after being tossed into the box with a new set of headers.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
