The “death of disco” is often traced to the late 1970s, when the genre’s massive popularity began to spark backlash from rock fans and industry insiders alike. Disco had dominated radio, clubs, and pop charts, but by 1979 it was seen by critics as over-commercialized and oversaturated. The tipping point came with the infamous Disco Demolition Night at Chicago’s Comiskey Park, where thousands gathered to destroy disco records in a promotion that quickly spiraled into chaos. While the event symbolized a cultural shift, it also exposed deeper tensions around race, sexuality, and changing musical tastes, as disco was closely tied to Black, Latino, and LGBTQ+ communities. Despite the backlash, disco never truly disappeared—instead, it evolved into new forms like dance, house, and electronic music, continuing to shape the sound of popular music for decades to come.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
