The West Side Flume & Lumber Company was established in 1898 to harvest more than 55,000 acres of timber near Tuolumne, California. To support the operation, the company built a 10-mile narrow-gauge railroad extending into the Sierra forests, carrying freshly cut logs down the mountain to a new sawmill while transporting loggers to and from the camps. In 1900, the railroad was incorporated as the Hetch Hetchy & Yosemite Valley Railroad with ambitious plans to serve as a common carrier, eventually providing passenger service to Hetch Hetchy Valley and, ultimately, Yosemite National Park. Despite operating passenger trains two and later three times each week, tourist traffic never met expectations. After the lumber company changed ownership in 1903 and became the West Side Lumber Company, passenger service was discontinued the following year, allowing the railroad to focus entirely on hauling timber and workers. Over the following decades, the line expanded into one of the most impressive logging railroads in the country. By the late 1940s, it featured more than 70 miles of mainline track, nearly 250 miles of temporary logging spurs, four major trestles, and transported more than 40 million board feet of lumber annually. The railroad remained in operation until 1960, earning recognition as the longest-running narrow-gauge logging railroad in the United States. Ultimately, however, advances in highway transportation made trucking a more economical option. West Side Lumber retired the railroad in favor of contract logging trucks, bringing the storied Hetch Hetchy & Yosemite Valley Railroad to the end of its remarkable six-decade run.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
