Earl “Lucky” Teter was an American stunt driver, daredevil, and showman who helped pioneer the traveling automobile stunt show, thrilling audiences across North America with death-defying feats behind the wheel. Born in Noblesville, Indiana, Teter went from pumping gas at a local service station to performing motorcycle and automobile stunts by 1932. In 1936, he launched Lucky Teter and His Hell Drivers, a wildly successful touring spectacle that packed grandstands across the United States and Canada. His shows became so popular that he sometimes performed afternoon exhibitions at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto before flying to Syracuse, New York, for evening performances at the New York State Fair, requiring two complete sets of cars and equipment. Teter is credited with popularizing stunts that became staples of automotive thrill shows, including ramp-to-ramp car jumps and deliberate rollovers. He was also among the first stunt drivers to secure the backing of an automobile manufacturer, partnering with Plymouth to promote its cars through his spectacular performances. Unfortunately, Lucky's luck eventually ran out. On July 5, 1942, while performing at an Army Relief benefit at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, Teter attempted to break his own distance record with a 150-foot jump over a transport truck. Behind the wheel of a 1938 Plymouth, he hit the takeoff ramp at approximately 65 mph and sailed through the air, but came down several feet short of the landing ramp. His car slammed into the ramp's supports, leaving him fatally injured. Teter died in an ambulance en route to the hospital, bringing a tragic end to the career of one of America's original automotive daredevils. Although his life was cut short, his influence lived on through generations of stunt drivers and the traveling thrill shows that followed in his tire tracks.
Like all our designs, this one is treated with our signature 'relic-ing' process which includes our own secret recipe of hand-painted chipping, cracking, fading, and just the right touch of yellowing to ensure that it looks the part of a true vintage imprint.** We lay these works of art down on super soft Gildan 18500 hoodies via state of the art direct to garment (DTG) printing which allows us to create a vintage effect that simply can't be accomplished with other printing methods. Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our hoodies are made using premium, preshrunk cotton/poly blends, there can be some slight shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you're on the fence or just want to be able to layer over various shirts, we always suggest going up a size as hoodies are meant to be a little on the big side 😎
