The Louvin Brothers were an American musical duo made up of brothers Ira and Charlie Louvin, who began performing together as a gospel act during the 1940s. They eventually expanded into country and bluegrass, releasing more than a dozen albums between 1956 and 1963 and becoming especially influential for their distinctive close-harmony singing. Ira played mandolin and typically handled the high tenor parts, while Charlie played rhythm guitar and supplied the lower harmony. While the brothers earned lasting respect for their music, they’re also remembered for the wonderfully bizarre cover of their 1959 album Satan Is Real. Designed by Ira himself, the infamous photo featured the brothers dressed in white suits and standing in a rock quarry before a 12-foot-tall plywood Devil, while kerosene-soaked tires burned behind them to create a convincing vision of hellfire and brimstone. The homemade spectacle has since become one of country music’s most recognizable album covers—and regularly turns up on lists celebrating the greatest terrible album artwork ever created.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
