The Rocket was a free biweekly music newspaper based in Seattle that chronicled the Pacific Northwest scene from 1979 to 2000. Unlike other regional weeklies such as Seattle Weekly and Willamette Week, which focused more heavily on local news and politics, The Rocket made music its main beat. By 1982, circulation had climbed to around 50,000 copies a month, and the paper was attracting nationally known writers and cartoonists. Its editorial staff generally preferred covering obscure and alternative bands, while the publisher pushed for more mainstream acts as well—a compromise the writers accepted, provided they were still free to take a few shots at the bigger names. Originally a Seattle-only publication, The Rocket expanded to Portland in 1991, with the two editions sharing most of the same content aside from local concert listings and the occasional alternate cover story. In 1995, The Rocket was sold to a Bay Area publisher that reportedly used the profitable paper to help support its other struggling publications, gradually draining away its resources. Five years later, it was sold again, this time to a Midwestern publisher who promised to restore the paper to its former strength and profitability. Instead, only weeks later, staff paychecks began bouncing and employees were abruptly informed that the publication was shutting down. No clear explanation was ever given to the staff. The Rocket’s final issue was dated October 18, 2000, bringing to a close more than two decades of documenting the music, bands, clubs, and culture of the Pacific Northwest.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
