They were boycotted Games, but the Los Angeles Olympics of 1984 hold a special place for many who follow Canadian sporting lore. The numbers don’t tell the whole story. While it’s true that the 44 medals, including 10 gold medals, won by Canadian athletes is double the number of podium finishes by athletes from this country at any summer Games since, it’s the symbolic nature of L.A. which continues to have a residual effect.
