Dexter Horton Building Seattle

The Dexter Horton Building in Seattle is named for Dexter Horton, the founder of Seattle First National Bank, later known as Seafirst Bank. Mr. Horton was the only banker in the territory with a safe, so everyone came to him to protect their money, not knowing the safe had the back removed to allow emergency access as Horton was worried about forgetting the combination or the lock malfunctioning. This photo of the building at 710 2nd Ave was taken in 1974, though the historic building still stands today and currently houses a real estate firm. Dig that Datsun 710 billboard 😎
