Kenneth Robert Howard (1929–1992), better known as Von Dutch, was one of the most influential figures in American hot rod and motorcycle culture. A gifted pinstriper, sign painter, metal fabricator, knife maker, gunsmith, and mechanic, Howard learned lettering and painting from his father, a Los Angeles sign painter, and was producing professional-quality work before he was a teenager. During the 1950s, he revolutionized automotive pinstriping with intricate freehand designs that helped define the emerging Kustom Kulture movement. His most enduring creations include the iconic Flying Eyeball, the legendary Kenford custom truck, and countless custom motorcycles and award-winning hot rods. Howard even popularized the use of the letter "K" in "Kustom," a stylistic choice inspired by his fascination with German design. Ironically, the man whose name would later become a global fashion brand had little interest in commercializing his work. After his death, the rights to the Von Dutch name were sold, eventually becoming synonymous with the trucker hat craze of the early 2000s. Howard himself famously rejected the notion of artistic ownership, saying, "Use any of my stuff you want to. Nothing is original... copyright and patents are mostly an ego trip." That philosophy inspired this design—a tribute to the authentic Von Dutch, celebrating the rebellious craftsman and artist who helped shape Kustom Kulture, rather than the fashion label that later borrowed his name.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
