Founded in 1930 with original authority between Denver, Colorado, and Chicago, Illinois, the aptly named Denver Chicago Trucking (DC) would grow to become the first coast-to-coast carrier in the nation. Real growth started in 1939 with the purchase of Denver-Los Angeles Trucking, which added routes to Los Angeles, San Diego, and Arizona. From their original 1931 A-5 International, the DC road fleet would grow to over 3,000 units wearing their once familiar DC green and yellow colors. By 1966 DC became one of the top 8 trucking companies in the U.S., with over 3,500 employees. In 1973 DC, along with LASME of Seattle, became part of the TIME System of Lubbock, TX. This trucking giant would operate for 10 more years before deregulation, increased costs, and fierce competition would force TIME-DC out of business.
