BMX started in the early 1970s when kids began racing their Schwinn’s on dirt tracks in Southern California, drawing inspiration from the motocross superstars of the time. BMX racing quickly became a phenomenon by the mid-1970s which led to organized racing events and eventually, countless makers of purpose built bikes and aftermarket accessories.
