Description
Hennis Freight Lines was founded in 1933 by brothers S.A. and H.L. Hennis of Mt. Airy, North, Carolina. When the Hennis brothers sold their trucking company to Shirley Mitchell in 1946, Mitchell moved the company to Winston-Salem and began his quest to become the largest individual owned trucking company in the world… and he very well could have succeeded. Hennis grew rapidly through acquisition of other lines, but unfortunately, Mitchell’s theory on maintenance was a little short-sighted. He thought it was better to buy new equipment, rather than repair the old. This led to a lack of common parts, with little or no parts inventory, which left Hennis trucks stranded all over the system when they broke down. Mitchell merely bought a replacement rig and left the broken-down tractor where it had stopped. By 1969, Hennis was the 18th largest trucking company in the nation, with 4,100 units on the road and more than 3,500 employees. The Chicago trucker’s union strike of 1970 struck the final blow to the once proud fleet. With 20% of their business through Chicago, Mitchell filed Chapter 10 bankruptcy in August 1970, the largest bankruptcy in American history at that time. M.C. Benton purchased the Hennis assets and tried to revive the company. But with equipment stranded throughout the country, the problems were too many. The assets of Hennis Freight Lines were sold to Spector Freight System of Chicago in 1975.

Sizing
Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
