Kellison Springy Thingy 1968 Vintage Men’s T-Shirt

Despite what the kit car ads in the back of magazines say, claims of easy assembly and performance results are dubious at best. Jim Kellison set out to change that in the late ’50s with a grand vision and one beautifully designed car body. The Kellison J-4 was initially offered as a fiberglass coupe ready to be mounted on your choice of chassis. Wanting to deliver a more complete offering, Kellison hired an Indy chassis builder to design a custom box tube frame that was both lighter and stronger than any donor chassis, and could be finished with readily available components. The result was a car that didn’t just keep up with the best European models but outperformed them. Kellison’s cars began winning races and the company really hit its stride in the ’60s, putting out numerous models and constantly tuning chassis offerings for better performance. In addition to the complete body/chassis cars, Kellison offered quite a few traditional kit cars that were just fiberglass bodies for air-cooled donor chassis that ranged from dune buggies to exotic replicas. Other offerings were targeted at the drag racing crowd and included fiberglass replacement body panels for popular muscle cars as well as wild dragster bodies and high clearance hoods. This design is based on the Kellison ‘Springy Thingy’ mascot that showed up in 1968 and hung around for several years.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
