In 1962, San Francisco restaurateur Enrico Banducci was driving past an oddly shaped, shuttered gas station at Columbus and Jackson when his friend Morgan Montague remarked, “What a great hamburger stand that would make.” A few months later, the pair turned that idea into reality, opening a 24-hour burger joint called Clown Alley. The tiny triangular café sat on the edge of North Beach’s bustling bar scene and quickly became a favorite late-night stop, serving greasy burgers to hungry crowds spilling out of the neighborhood’s clubs and taverns. Its success prompted Banducci and Montague to open a second Clown Alley at Lombard and Divisadero. Before long, however, their partnership dissolved, with each man taking control of one location—leaving San Francisco with two independently operated Clown Alley burger stands less than two miles apart. Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size. All sizes are provided in inches! Please note that variations in sizing of up to 1.5 inches are possible.
