Quaalude was the brand name for methaqualone, a sedative-hypnotic medication introduced during the 1960s to treat insomnia and anxiety. Originally marketed as a safer alternative to barbiturates, it became one of the most widely prescribed sedatives of the '70s. Its relaxing, sleep-inducing effects also made it a popular recreational drug, leading to widespread misuse and growing concerns about dependence, overdose, and impaired driving. 'Commander Quaalude' was created as an unofficial mascot of the recreational methaqualone crowd, and quickly became a top seller at head shops on t-shirts, hats, and stickers. Of course, all good things come to an end, and by the early '80s, increasing regulation and evidence of abuse prompted the U.S. government to classify methaqualone as a Schedule I controlled substance, ending its legal production and sale in the United States. Despite its disappearance from pharmacies, Quaaludes remain a well-known symbol of '70s pop culture, frequently referenced in movies, television, and music.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
