Design Description
Commander USA’s Groovie Movies was a cult horror-host showcase that premiered on January 5, 1985, airing weekend afternoons on cable TV. Hosted by the bizarre yet lovable Commander USA—a blue-collar comic book superhero broadcasting from a secret lair beneath a New Jersey shopping mall—the show specialized in horror, sci-fi, and wonderfully strange low-budget cinema. Early episodes featured double features on Saturdays before shifting to single movies on Sundays, often spotlighting Mexican wrestling films, Japanese action imports, and other offbeat Grade-Z oddities. The Commander enthusiastically championed every movie, whether it was Inframan, Blood Beast Terror, or some forgotten cinematic disaster. Adding to the chaos were recurring appearances by the Commander’s agent Barry Kluger and “Lefty,” a crude hand puppet drawn onto the Commander’s hand with cigar ash. As Lefty’s face smeared away throughout the show, the Commander would casually redraw it with his unlit cigar. In 1988, the franchise briefly expanded with Commander USA’s World of Horror magazine, though only one issue was published. More than 200 episodes of Groovie Movies were produced before the final broadcast aired on July 1, 1989.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
All sizes are provided in inches! Please note that variations in sizing of up to 1.5 inches are possible.
