Fort Hero, established in 1942 at Montauk Point, Long Island, was a 278-acre military base with the portions visible from the water disguised as a New England fishing village to protect it from German attacks. It housed four 16-inch naval guns in bunkers camouflaged with fake windows and roofs; the gym even resembled a church. Though official military use ended after WWII, government activity continued, fueling conspiracy theories about underground labs, mind control, and time travel as part of the alleged 'Montauk Project' or 'Montauk Experiment.' Locals dubbed the area "Camp Hero," and after its closure in 1981, and it became a state park in 2002, though many areas remain off-limits, including bunkers and the radar tower. Fort Hero has been frequently featured in popular culture, The Montauk Experiment was featured on a season 8 episode of Discovery Channel's Mysteries of the Abandoned on October 23, 2003. The episode, titled, "The Montauk Conspiracy" documented the conspiracies that "swirled around an abandoned military base" (Camp Hero) on Long Island. Experts discussed the critical role that the base played in defending America's coastline. In 2015, Montauk Chronicles, a film adaptation of the conspiracy featuring Preston Nichols, Alfred Bielek, and Stewart Swerdlow, was released online and on DVD and Blu-ray. The film won the best documentary award at the Philip K. Dick Film Festival in New York City and has been featured on Coast to Coast AM and The Huffington Post. The Netflix TV series Stranger Things (2016) was inspired by the somewhat dubious Montauk Project, and at one time Montauk was used as its working title. It was featured in a 2023 season 10 episode of the Science Channel's Mysteries of the Abandoned.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
