Thomas Garnet Gillies—better known as “Gar Gillies”—was a Winnipeg tinkerer whose love of sound quietly helped shape Canada’s rock scene. By day, he repaired radios and stereos at Cam’s Furniture, eventually buying the store, but his real passion lived in the workshop out back. There, Gar built P.A. systems for local nightclubs and began crafting custom amplifiers for area guitarists. When rock & roll exploded in the mid-1960s, musicians came knocking, searching for louder, richer tone—and Gar delivered. The Garnet Amplifier Company was born, and soon players were lining up at the furniture store for his powerful, road-tough, hand-built amps. Gar sold the retail side in 1966 to focus full-time on amplification, and Garnet amps became a touring staple. Though solid-state technology and cheap imports eventually undercut the business, Garnet amps endured into the ’80s. When the company closed in 1989, it left behind a lasting legacy of warm tone and Canadian craftsmanship that musicians still revere today.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
