Design Description
Hum is an American alternative rock band formed in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, in 1989, known for combining crushing, heavily distorted guitars with dreamy melodies, spacey atmospheres, and introspective lyrics. Their distinctive sound landed somewhere between shoegaze, post-hardcore, alternative rock, and space rock, with massive walls of guitar wrapped around understated, almost conversational vocals. After building a devoted underground following, Hum broke through with 1995’s You’d Prefer an Astronaut, followed by the even denser and more atmospheric Downward Is Heavenward in 1998, released just as alternative rock’s mainstream heyday was beginning to fade. Hum broke up in 2000 but reunited for occasional performances in the years that followed, including an appearance at Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2003. This design recreates the killer Japanese tokusatsu-inspired Hum graphic that was available exclusively at that show—a wonderfully strange mashup of the band’s spacey aesthetic and vintage Japanese sci-fi style.

Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
All sizes are provided in inches! Please note that variations in sizing of up to 1.5 inches are possible.
