Design Description
Jarts—or lawn darts—came from that magical era when apparently nobody had heard of product liability yet. The concept was beautifully simple: take a giant weighted dart with a metal point, throw it high into the air, and hope it stabbed the ground inside a plastic ring instead of your little sister. Somehow, this was considered wholesome family entertainment and not at all risky. The game was invented in the early 1950s by dentist Lawrence Barnett in his barn in upstate New York. Because, naturally, the guy who spent his days fixing people’s teeth decided what America really needed was a set of airborne backyard projectiles. Commercial production began in 1954, and Jarts quickly became a hit. The oversized metal-and-plastic darts were tossed toward plastic target rings placed on the lawn, basically combining horseshoes with the exciting possibility of an emergency-room visit.
Throughout the 1960s and ’70s, Jarts became a fixture at barbecues, picnics, campgrounds, and family gatherings, usually accompanied by lawn chairs, canned beer, and adults who were paying attention to absolutely anything else. Safety concerns eventually became impossible to ignore, and in 1971 restrictions kept lawn darts out of toy stores and toy departments. That didn’t kill them, though. Jarts and various knockoffs continued flying through American backyards well into the 1980s. After years of injuries, lawsuits, warnings, and people finally asking whether throwing sharpened metal objects into the air was maybe a bad idea, the Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the sale of lawn darts in 1988. And just like that, one of America’s most gloriously questionable backyard traditions was gone.

Size Chart
Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size. ![]()
All sizes are provided in inches! Please note that variations in sizing of up to 1.5 inches are possible.![]()
