Description
The first Licorice Pizza was a stand-alone store opened by owner Jim Greenwood in 1969, and it was located at 131 W. Fifth Street in Long Beach, California, which is about thirty-five miles south from L.A. for those of you who don’t know. Greenwood got the idea for naming his store after something he heard in a comedic sketch on a live album, recorded at the Santa Monica Civic, by 60s San Francisco-based folk duo Bud and Travis: one of them had joked about recording an album that they could cover with sesame seeds so that if the album didn’t sell, you could buy it at your local A&P Feed Store as a “licorice pizza.” Yeah, kinda lame, but hey, it was 1969 and this all made total sense! But I digress, the swirly somewhat cursive Licorice Pizza logo and the store’s “You Get It Nicer” motto were selling a recognizable brand that you were soon seeing all over – billboards, TV spots, prints ads – you name it. Tower Records was still pretty young as well and was trying to keep up with Licorice Pizza’s rapid expansion and rising popularity, though we all know how that race turned out in the long run.

Sizing
Not sure what size is your best fit? We recommend taking one of your current t-shirts, laying it flat and measuring it. The measurements in the chart below are taken with the shirt laying on a flat surface. To get the length, measure from the high shoulder point down to the bottom of the shirt. To get the width, measure approximately 1-inch below the armhole, across the chest, from seam to seam. The Next Level 3900 is a fitted women’s t-shirt, so if you are looking for a roomier fit, we suggest going up a size or with the unisex Bella + Canvas 3001 we print our men’s t-shirts on as they are the same super soft ring-spun cotton that feels like an old favorite. While our tees are all made using premium, pre-shrunk, ring-spun cotton, there can be some shrinkage depending on your personal wash and dry cycles. With that said, if you’re on the fence, we always suggest going up a size.
